About our Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect and use your personal information. It informs you about our legal basis for doing so and how we use your data to run our platform. It also covers whether and how that information may be shared and your rights and choices regarding the information you provide to us.

What data do we collect

To be able to use our services, we need to collect and process a minimum of personal information. Depending on your use of the platform, that may include:

  • The information you provide by completing forms on — your name, email, addresses, telephone number, country of residence, login, and password details. We might ask for this data if you register as a user of our platform, subscribe to our newsletters, upload or submit content, or if you want to contact us;
  • Information you provide when launching a project, including your legal name, business name and Tax ID for business entities and bank account details.;

  • Communications you send to us (ex. when you ask for support, send us questions or comments, or report a problem);
  • The email address linked to your Facebook account, if you choose to register using your Facebook-account. We will also request permission to access your name and profile picture (these permissions are governed by Facebook’s privacy policies and can be managed through your Facebook privacy settings). We never post anything to your Facebook, Twitter, or other third-party accounts without your explicit permission.

You may decline to provide us with your personal information. However, this will limit your ability to register for an account or use our Services. You're able to see, change or remove your personal information through your account settings.

How your data is shared

As a funder (someone who financially supported a project), the only information that is shared publicly is your first name + the first letter of your last name, and your profile picture. If you prefer not to share your first name + the first letter of your last name, you can choose to show a custom username.

As a creator of a project, no personal information will be visible. You're given a 'Team' section where you're supposed to give information about you and/or your team, but we don't show the information you provided in your personal account.

It's possible that your information is shared with certain trusted third-party services in order to help us provide, improve, protect or run's services. Like partnerships with payment providers for example. When we share data with third-party services that support our delivery of our Services, we require that they use your information only for the purposes we’ve authorized, and that they protect your personal information at least to the same standards we do. We may also share information that’s aggregated and anonymized in a way that it doesn’t directly identify you.

When you support a project, the project's creator has no possibility to see any of your personal information. He's only able to see the 'Funders'-page, which shows the first name + the first letter of your last name. When a project is successfully funded, the creator will receive the name, email address and the amount you've pledged. We give them your email address because they may need your mailing address, or T-shirt size or any other information that has to deal with the reward you bought.

Creators are required to keep backer information confidential, except as strictly necessary to communicate with backers directly and fulfill rewards. Creators should not ask for personal information that isn’t necessary to provide your reward, and should never request sensitive personal information such as your Social Security number or payment information. We do reserve the right to disclose personal information when we believe that doing so is reasonably necessary to comply with the law or law enforcement, to prevent fraud or abuse, or to protect Kickstarter’s legal rights, property, or the safety of Kickstarter, its employees, users, or others.

Your data retention

We retain your information as long as your account is active on our platform, it's necessary to give you access to our services or as otherwise set forth in this Policy. We will also retain and use this information as necessary for the purposes set out in this Policy and to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements and protect our own legal rights.
